Injury Prevention

 

The Year 2000 Department of Public Health State of the City Address lists as one of "San Francisco's major public health challenges 'a high proportion of injuries and deaths that could be reduced by prevention. It reports San Francisco's crude death rate from unintentional injuries as 38 per 100,000, above both the California rate and the Year 2000 National Objective. The Profile of Injury in San Francisco reports a total of 442 injury deaths and 6182 injury hospitalizations of San Francisco residents in 1998.

Injury Prevention is a major area of focus for the Community Health Education Section of the Community Health Promotion and Prevention Branch. Projects addressing both
