Eligibility & Fees
The services of San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center are available to all San Francisco residents. All patients must complete the hospital’s financial eligibility process. This process will determine the patient’s financial responsibility for the care provided. Patients residing outside San Francisco and without insurance, or patients enrolled in Health Maintenance Organizations or Preferred Provider Plans with which SFGH does not contract are referred out to appropriate providers and/or will be responsible for the full amount of charges incurred.
SFGH accepts all health insurance coverage. Prior authorization and guarantee of payment are required for plans with whom we do not contract. The amount that a patient may be expected to pay varies dependant upon eligibility screening, insurance coverage, and services provided. Patients may receive separate bills from the hospital, physicians and other providers such as ambulance transportation.
