Resolution:

Approving a Proposal To Provide Health Insurance To In Home Supportive Services Workers Providing Care To Medi-Cal Recipients Who Reside In San Francisco, January 20, 1998

WHEREAS, In Home Supportive Services workers provide an important service by providing care which allows severely ill people to remain at home and out of institutional settings; and,

WHEREAS, in Home Supportive Services workers are typically low income and un or under-insured for health benefits; and,

WHEREAS, many in Home Supportive Services workers fall within the eligibility guidelines of the Community Medical Assistance Program; and,

WHEREAS, Federal funding is available to offset the cost of providing health insurance to In Home Supportive Service workers; and,

WHEREAS, providing health insurance to In Home Supportive Service workers will improve the overall health of the target population; and,

WHEREAS, providing health insurance to In Home Supportive Services workers creates an opportunity for In Home Supportive Services workers to be linked to the Community Health Network in an organized and managed way; and,

WHEREAS, providing health insurance to In Home Supportive Services workers offers an opportunity to work close with other agencies and with organized labor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the San Francisco Health Commission supports the Community Health Network proposal to provide health insurance to In Home Supportive Service workers.
