Commending the Start of Enrollment In the New Healthy Kids Program Offered Through the San Francisco Health Plan, Encouraging San Francisco Families To Obtain Health Coverage For Their Uninsured Children Regardless of Immigration Status, and Proclaiming January 13, 2002 “Healthy Kids Day” In the City and County of San Francisco

WHEREAS, there are 9,200 uninsured children in San Francisco, of which approximately 5,000 will be eligible for the new Healthy Kids Program, 3,000 are eligible for other state and federal public health insurance programs, and the remainder ineligible for any public health insurance program; and,

WHEREAS, in recognition of this critical need, the City and County of San Francisco has provided funding to the San Francisco Health Plan to develop the Healthy Kids Program, which will provide full medical, prescription, dental and vision coverage to uninsured San Francisco children, regardless of their immigration status; and,

WHEREAS, on December 21, 2001 the California Department of Managed Health Care issued an order authorizing the San Francisco Health Plan to commence the Healthy Kids Program; and,

WHEREAS, the San Francisco Health Plan may now start enrolling eligible San Francisco children in the Healthy Kids Program, and, in connection with its initial outreach activities, the Plan will hold several community-based enrollment events on and around January 13, 2001; and,

WHEREAS, the San Francisco Health Commission wishes to commend the start of enrollment in the Healthy Kids Program and to encourage all San Francisco families to obtain health coverage for their uninsured children by attending a Healthy Kids enrollment event or contacting the San Francisco Health Plan; and,

WHEREAS, the San Francisco Health Commission wishes to proclaim January 13, 2002 “Healthy Kids Day” in the City and County of San Francisco; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Health Commission of the City and County of San Francisco hereby commends the start of enrollment in the Healthy Kids Program; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that all San Francisco families with uninsured children are hereby encouraged to attend the Healthy Kids enrollment events or contact the San Francisco Health Plan to obtain health coverage for their uninsured children; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that January 13, 2002 is hereby proclaimed “Healthy Kids Day” in the City and County of San Francisco.
