Resolution:

Approving the Application for Licensure of the Chronic Renal Dialysis Center By San Francisco General Hospital To Provide Services To Patients of the City and County of San Francisco With End-Stage Renal Disease

WHEREAS, the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), has operated the Renal Dialysis Center at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) Medical Center since 1967; and,

WHEREAS, the UCSF Renal Dialysis Center provides outpatient chronic dialysis services to 113 Community Health Network (CHN) patients directly, and facilitates services for another 56 CHN patients at other facilities; and,

WHEREAS, the UCSF Department of Medicine at SFGH gave notice to the Hospital of its intent to relinquish the license for the UCSF Renal Center and cease operations on June 30, 2003; and,

WHEREAS, an unsuccessful exhaustive search was undertaken to identify a new provider of service to assume operation of the UCSF Renal Center at SFGH; and,

WHEREAS, uninterrupted chronic dialysis services are vital to the health and well being of CHN patients and residents of San Francisco; and,

WHEREAS, the Health Commission of the City and County of San Francisco approved the costs for operating the Renal Dialysis Center to be included in the fiscal year 2003-2004 budget; and,

WHEREAS, San Francisco General Hospital will submit an application for licensure of the Renal Dialysis Center; and will assume oversight of operations to ensure effective management of the Clinic, now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Health Commission of the City and County of San Francisco hereby approves the application for licensure of the Renal Clinic by San Francisco General Hospital for CHN residents and patients.

I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was adopted by the San Francisco Health Commission at its meeting of March 4, 2003.
