State and Federal Governmental Affairs

The San Francisco Department of Public Health ‘s Governmental Affairs team works in the Office of Policy and Planning monitoring federal and state budget and appropriations issues, legislation, and other public policy issues that may impact the Department of Public Health and/or the health of our residents. The Governmental Affairs team tracks legislative developments and provides analyses of different policy proposals and the potential positive or negative impact on health. Our team provides Department leadership and our Health Commission with key information regarding policy activities by working with the expertise of our staff and professional organizations. We work with our Mayor’s Office in the formulation of City positions on federal and state policy and work in conjunction with City leadership to develop different strategies to recommend or implement a course of action.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health is committed to ensuring our patients, clients and colleagues are supported and informed in the post-election environment. The 2016 federal election has not changed SFDPH’s commitment to provide quality health care and services for all San Franciscans, regardless of immigration or insurance status.  We want all of our patients and clients to continue to seek services with their SFDPH providers, including care at our clinics and hospitals. The information below represents our post-election updates for the first seven months following the November 2016 elections. We will now be transitioning our updates to State and Federal Policy Updates under Governmental Affairs (above).
