Animal Fur Products

The San Francisco Animal Fur Products Ordinance went into effect on May 13, 2018, and became operational on January 1, 2019. The Ordinance prohibits any person or entity from selling, offering or displaying for sale, trade, gift, donation, distribution, or manufacturing a fur product in the City and County of San Francisco, as further provided in the San Francisco Health Code, Article 1D.

The Department of Public Health's FAQ addresses some of the most common questions about enforcement of the Ordinance. While the Ordinance applies to any person or entity engaged in the conduct that the Ordinance prohibits, this FAQ focuses on retail establishments that sell or facilitate the purchase of new fur products within the City.

This FAQ is in the process of being translated and will be available in Chinese, Filipino, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.
